Flyers
Many of my friends started asking for flyers and for their fraternities or for their birthdays. It was fun to showcase my work and cater to the different themes of each event in their specific design styles, that are different from my own.

What makes me stoked?
Hi, I'm Taryn Veldusea! I am a Senior Marketing Coordinator for Hensel Phelps. I am very passionate about marketing and design. I have been drawing, sketching, and illustrating for as long as I can remember. I found my niche in digital marketing because it combines my love for communication and creativity. When I'm not designing, I'm often outside exploring California's beautiful coasts and taking landscape photos any chance I get. I'm also a huge sports fan, growing up watching my favorites: the Los Angeles Angels (although, to me, they will always be the Anaheim Angels) and the Denver Broncos.

Playing with Styles, Type, and Overprint
In the free time I have with COVID-19, I have been designing and experimenting with design a lot more. Things like mixing and warping typefaces, playing with the overprint function, sketching, and creating designs for friends and family!
Summit Anesthesia
These Summit Anesthesia mock-ups were created to provide direction for a Medical group in Hemet, California. Their colors for all of the underlying subgroups under their main group are navy and gold and they knew they wanted something having to do with mountains in the logo, due to 'Summit.'

Therapy Direct
Therapy Direct came to me, in the early stages of app development, looking for a design that encompassed the different options for therapy. The app is going to allow therapists to communicate directly to clients and schedule appointments, without having to go through the hassle of a third party, so it was important to represent everyone involved. The client had the idea of using a head, but wanted to leave the rest of the design to me. I created a couple concepts before we decided we wanted to use icons to denote each therapist channel and include the home. The final logo emphasizes all areas and stays minimalistic in order to convey the apps purpose in just a glance.

Foxcycle
Foxcycle was a logo created for a friend's Computer Science project. The objective
was to build a website for a bike shop called Foxcycle, named after their professor. I was excited to create the logo for them that showcases a fox with a bicycle for eyes and eyebrows. It was a fun project, and I'm glad I got to help the group out.
Stickers
My sticker design collection started fun and sellable stickers were needed at the front desk of University Graphic Systems, the print shop I worked at. Primarily selling to students, all designs are geared toward the Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo community. We printed the stickers in house for Cal Poly students to put on laptops, water bottles, phone cases, and more.
My absolute favorite is the 'Keep Moving Forward' sticker, inspired by the Disney movie Meet the Robinsons, because of the sheer amount of work I put into every aspect.
Sketches
My most recent sketch was done for some friends of mine. They were hoping I could illustrate an outlined version of them sitting on their Toyota 4Runner for their roadtrip in the near future. With a compilation of photos they took on other trips, I was able to create a meaningful logo to embody their new adventure. I always love creating art for my friends and family, and they absolutely loved seeing the finished project!
The other sketches stemmed from class projects, like our assignment to create a formatted technical paper. The style is designed to emulate a formal sketch using a paper and pen. The varying widths create depth, since there are few colors that make up the pieces.
Typography
The chameleon project is one of my favorite pieces. My high school graphic design teacher had asked us to create an image only using type, in Adobe Photoshop. I was determined to turn my measly sketch of my favorite animal into a portfolio piece. I remember it taking well over the time allotted, especially with my beginner/intermediate Photoshop skills at the time, but when I finished it was well worth it.
Miscellaneous
Photoshop was the first Adobe application I became familiar with, and I learned a lot about myself and my talent through this program through trial and error. Our very last project in my high school graphic design class was to create an illusion using light bulbs. This project sparked a lot of interest in continuing my career as a designer.
In my time at Cal Poly, I took on the role of a WOW leader going into my second year. My co-leader and I used a Spongebob theme and I created the Krabby Patty and signs using Adobe Illustrator.
Social Media Audition Post
Raising The Bar
In my audition for the company Raising The Bar—a professional consulting, training, and coaching company—I was asked to create a sample Instagram post using the website and current Instagram for inspiration and copy. I was able to create this graphic and sent a detailed reasoning to the employer of why I thought it would be effective (written below):
As I was scrolling and exploring the RTB website, these four words really caught my eye (mentor, inspire, motivate, propel). I was inspired to create a graphic that would attract the college audience we are targeting; however, it also engages everyone—those who have jobs, those who have used RTB, those who are potential leads, etc.—through asking for advice, stories, and uplifting comments. Recently, I have seen many posts with a similar style being shared across platforms for many current social issues. I thought it was important, in this weird time, to spread some positivity and encourage people to share their experiences. I was sure to stick with the color theme, while also bringing in some fun with the hand drawn text. There are two choices in color because I believe the red and blue combination stands out, but the blue and turquoise fits with the consistency of the recent posts.
I remember you saying you had desired more engagement for your Instagram posts. To help with this, I felt it necessary to add hashtags in order to attract those with the desire for help in their job hunt (#jobsearch), as well as highlighting those key words in the graphic.
I understand this graphic is a slightly different style than what is currently being posted. With the above mentioned, I believe it caters to the college demographic by demanding attention on an Instagram feed, where visuals are dominant.
Although I had to turn down this position, I am more than happy with how this graphic turned out. I also believe my response and explanation was well written and look forward to finding a job that allows me to utilize those skills.

Paso Robles Stickers
A fun project I was tasked with at the Chamber was creating Paso Robles stickers for the Visitor's Center. Many visitors want to purchase small items like stickers, magnets, keychains, and postcards,so our mission was to create simple designs that visitors would want to purchase—seems simple enough.
Knowing Paso has many wineries, I wanted to stay away from stealing business from those Chamber members so I geared my designs toward oak trees and acorns, huge staples in the Paso Robles community. The historic Acorn Building in Paso Robles, was a big inspiration to the acorns in my designs.

Social Media Posts and Planning
Although my time with Bubble & Hatch was short, I was able to provide them a lot of groundwork to start revamping their social media accounts. The last photo shows the original posts that B&H started with and wanted to transform. I started by creating a style guide of the direction they wanted to go, that included their main clients, hashtags, colors, fonts used on their website, and questions I had for them (first photo). I also wanted to be sure to document all of the information I knew about the company and my position as an their Social Media Intern, especially because I was their first intern (second photo). I also documented my initial ideas for posts and what we were hoping to gain more of, client-wise.
As my internship continued, I created many post ideas, using stock photos that matched the aesthetic the company was going for in place of photos we hoped to take in the future. An emerging trend I wanted to capitalize on was definitely overlaying graphic elements over photos. This adds a fun and unique touch, to stock photos especially.
Bubble & Hatch Marketing
SGA and Associates Inc.
The SGA logo was a project I worked on for a vehicle storage company based in Southern California. The requirements were a sports car inspired look, and they requested the colors blue and gray.
I started by receiving a rough sketch from one of the associates, iterating a sleek car-like shape, maybe made out of the letters. We immediately went away from that concept to something like the second photo of a rough lightning bolt concept, and again moved to the third photo of that of a minimalistic car, and finally to the final logo. The outcome was exactly what they envisioned.
